Adventure at the Oxbow (FINISHED)

Hediki trotted quietly behind Swift, eyeing his surroundings. He took in each dying blade of yellow grass, the melting snow that still clung to the clumps of sage brush. He loved this territory, it was almost like a combination of both Canyon Pack's and Bison Pack's land, which may have been why he liked it out here so much.

The male let his gaze pull away from the surroundings as he quickly realized Swift had stopped moving to look behind her. Hediki stopped in time before running into her. "What?" He asked with a slight cock to his head, obviously confused as to why she had stopped moving to look at him.

Yet instead of receiving a reply, she turned around and walked forward again. He shook out his pelt, and didn't bother to think more of her action.

Axolotl decided to keep a bit more quiet afterwards bringing up the rear of the group. He was just excited because it was his first time that he got to go so far out into their territory. Suddenly a strange thought occurred. When will I get a mate? That was a question that came out of the blue. The scenery was beautiful although the young wolf felt as if something was wrong.

Hediki continued forward in silence, just like the others. He flicked his ear at the sound of Ceiko's voice.

Axolotl decided not to move away as Ceiko. He had to admit he was excited as a subordinate on the first day out of the den site. "It's actually quite fun being close to the Oxbow!" he piped happily as he walked alongside his pack-mate.

Ceiko nodded,"Yeah, especially to see it in all of its daylight," he trailed off into his thoughts, 'must be beautiful'. He smiled over Axolotl, grinning a bit more as he caught the vivid excitement in his voice.

"I wonder what we should do now that were down here," the snowy white wolf trailed off, taking a few 'glances' around, but mostly just using his sense of sound to try and determine what the others were doing.

Swift had long forgotten her pangs of hunger or thirst, she leapt over large twigs and branches carried to the shorelines from near or distant trees during the stormy seasons of fall. She pushed her way through and around the grasses, creating a path that was all her own. Her eyes were wide with the excitement and wonder. She felt so lost in what felt so close to being like a new world to her.

She pushed her way back out from between the grasses to take a look at the bank when she realized it disappeared. Her gut sank, did she find a way around, or was she lost? She quickly changed direction and walked back the same way she had come, yet before she knew it, the babbling of the thinned out river reached her. It spoke softly, hence why she got so lost easily. So there was a break in the water!

So while that had been true, there was a break, yet she also had come to realize she did stray a bit far. She looked at the tall untamed field grasses, 'someone could easily get lost', she thought. 'What a great way to play hide and seek tag!' she grinned, forgetting of one simple problem. Ceiko. Distracted by all that felt so new, she climbed the slight ridge that provided a break in the water and headed into the little island.

Swift crept closer and smirked as she saw Hediki sitting up atop the alpha's perch. She crept closer quietly as if hunting prey, every movement she made was silent and practically perfect. Then suddenly she launched herself at him, her paws extended to take him down, and with the intent of knocking him off the perch.

Swift smirked, but noticing as a grin crept onto her face, she quickly tried to act as stubborn as she usually was. "That's my name," she said simply. She rolled her eyes, "by the way, that's the Alpha's perch, and I can't say I can see you belonging there." She scoffed, her tone a bit more lighthearted and playful. Her words held an ironic ring to them as destiny may have it.

Swift smirked, "I know nobody is going to get in trouble, but only current and future Alpha's should sit here." She remarked, a bit teasingly as she climbed up to the Alpha's perch.

She took a glance around a bit wide eyed once she had settled down. Her jaw nearly dropped at the view, wow, it was amazing! She wondered if her father felt the same way when he were up here, or if it simply got old for him. She found herself a bit speechless in the moment of it all.

Hediki watched as she clambered off him, then after a moment he followed her back up onto the rise. "See? Isn't it great? It's crazy how the alpha's can keep such a straight expression while up here." He paused, "or maybe they don't have to since it's dark." Those words lead the young warrior to wonder what the view looked like at night. Was it illuminated by the vast expanse of reflective snow and moon light? Or was it completely shadowy? A part of him desired to explore around here sometime after the rest of the pack would have gone to sleep.
