Silence rested over the Slough Creek valley like a blanket, the full moon illuminating the shadows nearby. Even with the moon’s brilliant lighting, the land around them was left darker than usual.
For this gathering, Avikii decided to take his pack early, it left him slightly annoyed that Storm had always beaten him to it in the past. Yet, the alpha had yet to discover why it wasn’t Storm’s howl that called down that packs that night... He glanced up at the sky, noticing a few clouds blotted out the luminescent full moon. He narrowed his eyes, praying it wasn’t an omen of bad news. Avikii waited on the ledge on the outskirts of the den site that overlooked the valley, the place he called home. He flicked an ear at the sound of shuffling behind him, which told him it was time to leave. "Let’s go," he signaled to his pack, who waited around the site, light chit-chat taking them over. The alpha turned and lead the group of wolves down the sloping hills of their territory. Paws drummed on the stiff, frozen ground, he passed clumps of snow or brushed by it as Avikii lead the group towards the Old OxBow. As the group continued to shuffle forward, Avikii found that they had reached the edge of their territory, and with that came the crossing of the shallow creek. He shivered as the cool water crept it’s way up his legs, and was relieved when he found himself on the other side, stepping foot onto neutral territory. He wasted no time to get moving again. A while later, the alpha looked up, spotting the crescent shaped body of water up ahead. Good, it’s not a far walk. He thought, and pressed on ward. Soon, he and his pack flooded into the Old OxBow, and Avikii took his place on the large smooth rock placed perfectly in the center of the area of land. He took a moment to scan over the gathered wolves before lifting his muzzle to the dark sky, letting out a strong, loud howl to signal that they had arrived, and for Bison Pack to get on their way. <<>> 302 watched as his alpha began to lead the pack out of camp. We must finally be leaving, he thought, and got to his paws to follow. Once they had crossed the creek and arrived at the OxBow, he took a seat, and tried to force out the sound of Avikii’s howl, he was sitting close by, and it was just enough the drown out the murmurs around him. He glanced to his left, seeing Hediki alone at the moment. He knew the half-pack would feel left out, so with a sigh, the Casanova invited him over. "Hey, over here." He barked. Then he wondered if the gathering would be awkward for the young wolf, or perhaps he had tried to put his half-blood self behind him. <<>> Once Hediki arrived at the Old OxBow, he realized just how few friends he had. Apart from his siblings, he didn’t know very many wolves within his own pack, nonetheless speak with them. Then a bark caught in his ear, a familiar one. He looked up to see 302, who surprisingly, beckoned him over. Wow, he may have his sights set on the females, but at least he still notices the friendless male. He thought, and padded over to the black wolf, sitting down beside him. "Thanks…" He said quietly. Now that he thought of it, Hediki would be facing the pack he was half of. To be honest, it had been forever since that Bison Pack wolf was taken from Canyon Pack’s custody, what was her name? He thought, picking his mind for anything that could be remembered. Wasn’t there another that went with her, that was taken? I thought she was Canyon though. The young wolf continued to ponder, clueless to the fact that he had forgotten his family. |

Swift sat a far distance away from Hediki, she was close by to her father and her other siblings. Her tail flicked on the ground impatiently. Was Bison pack ALWAYS this late? She shook her head, 'leave it up to Bison pack to ruin the gathering night,' she thought bitterly. What lazy scum they were, probably taking their sweet time to dance their way down there like lily flowers on a spring breeze. The she wolf grinned a bit as she tried to picture such large bulky wolves prancing down through the moonlight to the gathering.

Lightning saw near to Avikii, but seeing as Bison Pack may take a while, he decided to go talk to 302 and Hediki. He wanted to mention something about being related to Hediki, but he wasn't exactly sure how. He decided to just go with the flow about it. He trotted over slowly and dipped his head in greeting to the both of them.

Ceiko looked around in awe, "Wow, my first gathering!" His tail wagged quickly as he said the words softly out loud, his voice filled with joy. He could not believe it. He shook out his pelt, bouncing through the grass, looking around at the Oxbow with curiosity.

Elpis had yet gone to a meeting, so this washer first. She wasn't quite sure what was going to be discussed nor how she would be of use. She was hoping that her training in the healer field would not be required upon this night. Nonetheless, she was prepared if any fight was to break out, unless that conflict would be with her, in which case she might freeze. Combat was not one of her strong suits. As per usual she sat a little away from everyone and kept her quiet. She felt like she had made herself hard to judge based on how she kept herself. One might have trouble knowing what her mind held within just by looking at her as her body language did not show it.
Kastor sat on the outside of his family, keeping his sisters between him and his father. Though he knew they could protect themselves, he felt it would be best to keep them where either him or his father could defend them. He sat with a straight posture to display his confidence, though most would assume it to be an over shown pride.

Ceiko took a brief glance to the sky, as much as he wanted to be happy about his first gathering, the clouds gave him an eerie feeling.
Everything was nearly pitch black with exception to a thin gentle silvery glow from the moon only half blocked far overhead. A cool wind rustled the fallen Autumn leaves, dragging them across the ground, scratching them and crashing them against each other as they tumbled around following the wind where it may go. The cold winds whipped through the tall oxbow grasses, causing them to shake back and forth similar to the sound of another wading through them.
His fur prickled, what if some wolf came and snuck up on them, they would never know because of all this wind and the noise it caused. He felt a chill ripple down his spine and for a second he thought his vision went black, but it only happened to be a dense amount of cloud covering the moon. He laid his ears back, suddenly not too fond of the night which gave him an odd foreboding of loosing his sight and an eerie feeling something terrible was awaiting them.

Koga sat down with Kane a little ways away from the group, then she noticed Elpis, the novice healer, and the female she would be helping to train. she barked to get her attention and waved her other with her tail, she hated seeing wolves sit around and looking lonely.
Kane smiled as koga invited over elpis.

Crescent took a deep breath. Her first gathering as Alpha. Without Storm, leading the pack, explaining to the others what had happened. How was this going to end? As she heard Avikii's howl, she knew the other pack had arrived. It was time to head off. "Come on, it's not a far walk, and we need to get there quickly," Crescent called to her pack, leading them out of the den site. Shadows seemed to hang over the territories tonight, even in the moonlight - an unusual darkness. The wolf's paws crunched in the snow that lightly dusted the ground, an ever-present, grim reminder of winter.
Soon, the neutral territory came into sight, and Crescent almost let out a sigh of relief. She was glad she'd managed to remember the way, and it would be straightforward from here. Quickly, Bison Pack shuffled into the Old Oxbow, settling themselves among the others. Crescent hopped up onto the small hill where Storm used to sit. It felt odd up here, looking down over the others. She always used to look up to him here, but now it was her turn. Her responsibility. She supposed she better get used to it.
"Hello," she greeted Avikii calmly, mentally preparing herself for the whirlwind of questions that were sure to follow her presence here. "Bit of a gloomy night, hey? Sorry for keeping you waiting." She was trying to be polite to the other alpha, but she wondered whether she should even bother. They were their ememy, after all - that Canyon Pack scum.

Magpie, like the excited little subordinate she was, had a huge, goofy grin on her face as she took her place among the other wolves. She plonked herself down next to a Canyon wolf, not caring for differences in pack. "Hey!" she said, trying to strike up a conversation.

Lightning decided perhaps not to talk to Hediki, because shortly after he had gone to approach him, Crescent made her presence known. He tilted his head to the side, wondering why the beta was taking the Alpha's place. He glanced over to Avikii, wondering what was going through his own mind.

Avikii heard the paw steps of an approaching group, and looked over his shoulder to see the pack. Yet, something was off, that usual bulky, russet colored figure wasn't among the group. Where was Storm? Had he fallen ill with green cough? White cough even and couldn’t attend the gathering? He was moved from his thoughts as Crescent came up on his side, and sat beside him on the rise in landscape. He flicked an ear at her voice, friendly, he liked that. He was so used to Storm’s bad attitude towards him, it was nice having the other alpha act more friendly for a change.
"Yeah," Avikii replied to her first comment, still curious as to why Storm didn’t attend. "And it’s fine, usually it’s me who keeps Storm waiting." He said with a chuckle, hoping to lighten the mood no matter how dark the valley was. He glanced at his pups, of whom were subordinates, who sat neatly in front of him. He didn’t instruct them to sit like that, but he still found it pretty amusing how they knew their place in the pack. He was surprised that it wasn’t Lightning sitting in front of him, but rather Swift, Kastor, and Mari, the alpha quickly realized that Lightning had gone to talk with Hediki.

Hediki looked up at the sight of Lightning, what does the beta want with me? He thought, slightly confused.

Comet padded to the Old Oxbow with the pack, keeping quiet. Although it'd been a little while since Storm had disappeared, the warrior still wasn't used to this change. Of course he was so proud of his mate, Cresent, and how great of an Alpha she'd been, but it still felt odd. Arriving at the gathering place, he sat down not very far away from so Canyon wolves, but still kept a respectful distance. Another thing the lean wolf found odd was the lack of conversation, especially when this night was supposed to be a time of peace and yet, none of the two packs really merged together in conversation. Guess the silence is better than starting a fight, Comet thought to himself and looked up to Cresent and Avikii, waiting for the gathering to start.
OOC: Omegas CAN NOT go to gatherings.

Soba followed after 302, a fellow warrior. He glanced up at the moon as he reached the old oxbow, noticing its harsh glow had been cut off by the other clouds. He sighed, wishing it were clearer, he liked the bright moonlight, liked how it lit up the valley even at night.
Kuno padded after koga, his single mother. This was his first gathering, and he was pretty nervous. He would finally meet the pack that the older wolves talked about, bison pack was it?
Kyro entered the old oxbow after Crescent, then parted ways to meet up with the canyon healer, if he could figure out who they were.

Leafa entered the Oxbow and looked around. She blinked, a bit uncomfortable. So many wolves... Leafa turned her head to Avikii before moving on and settling down on the soft ground. She looked at the sky and soon her eyes were wandering around the clearing, targeting each wolf as she studied them silently.

Khari skid into the clearing and looked around with awe. Look at all these wolves! She teetered over towards Avikii before stopping, completely sidetracked by the groups of wolves by now. She had totally forgotten where she was going.

Taurus lumbered into the Old Oxbow, his shiny brown pelt glistening dimly. This was his first gathering, and he had to admit he was excited. Though he didn't completely show it physically, it was there.

Ryka padded in behind the bison group, feeling a little bashful for being slightly later than the rest of her pack. She took a seat beside Takoni.
Jetta bounced in behind Ryka, obviously overly excited. She wanted to chat, get to know wolves from the other pack, but the silence dawned on her, and soon her mood was flat as she sat down.

Seeing that most of the wolves had settled in, Avikii decided it would be time to start the gathering. Taking a brisk step forward, he raised his voice over the dying murmurs from the conversations below.
"Today we gather in peace beneath the full moon, to discuss events between the two packs..." He barked, hoping to grab the attention of others, glancing at the moon and taking note that it was half covered by clouds. He took a breath, hoping he wouldn't screw up. "Canyon pack has been thriving. We have been blessed with plenty of pups who have recently been named subordinates, including my three pups..." He scanned the crowd for the new subordinates, including his offspring of course. "Their names are Swift, Mari, and Kastor, and the others, Lily, Kuno, Leafa, Lupus, Akita, Ceiko, Hediki, and Larka." He paused again, catching his breath. "Of course, prey is roaming off season, but we have had no trouble feeding the mouths of our pups and elders." The alpha concluded, and stepped back, lowering his head slightly and inviting Crescent to speak.

302 snapped his attention to the front, paying close attention to Avikii. He didn't bring up that the newer subordinate, Leafa, had been a loner, or that Lily had been an apparent rogue. Better keep it silent then, wouldn't want to be known as the pack who takes in suspect rivals, he thought grimly.

Hediki watched in awe, so many wolves he had never seen before! He glanced around, noticing a few Bison Pack wolves that looked about his age, including a skinny black-furred female, of which looked a lot like 302, his father...

Takoni stayed quite, respecting the Canyon Pack alpha as he spoke, no matter how much he couldn't stand the pack.

Soba noticed Leafa sitting alone and got up and went to her, sneaking his way though the crowd and being as quite as possible. He sat down beside her, and nudged her shoulder. "Enjoying it?" He asked, "I still remember my first gathering, I was only a subordinate back then." He whispered, aweing at his own memories.

Lightning shot a glare at Leafa and Soba whom he found chattering. His ears flicked in the direction of the perhaps 'New Bison Alpha' urging them silently to give her their respect as her wolves are requested to be towards Avikii. It was a thing called respect he didnt expect the younger wolves to understand completely, especially a young subordinate such as Leafa.
However, not only did he want the murmuring to die down in respect, but he also was curious to learn of why Storm was absent. He sat near by to Avikii, just below his ledge, so even if the murmurs refused to die out, he would still be able to hear a fair amount at least.

Swift glanced around with a smirk, proud to be one of the first wolves listed. She turned to look around at the other wolves but found very few happened to look her way at the mention of her subordination. Some even had a few funny looks, she had yet to learn why.
It was almost the same look her father gave her. She could only wonder what the looks could possibly mean.

Ceiko watched the ceremony preceed with narrow eyes. He sat up straight and his full attention forth, well... most of it. His ears flickered around every once in a while. Ceiko had such a nervous caution coursing through his body. The atmosphere felt odd, the Bison alpha was supposedly missing for some unknown reason, perhaps he was overthinking everything. He let out a shiver and shook out his pelt, turning his ears forth, his paws kneading at the ground.

Crescent began, hoping she wouldn't mess this up. She scanned the crowd to check she had mentioned all the subordinates, then returned her gaze to Avikii. She didn't exactly trust this Canyon wolf, or his pack, but she couldn't do much about it now. Besides, she had to let them know of the situation.
"Now, as you've surely noticed, Storm is not here to lead the pack tonight." She took a breath. How were they going to react? "I regret to tell you that Storm has disappeared. We woke up one morning to find him gone, and as the beta, I took his place as Alpha. We have sent out patrols in an effort to find him, but the recent snow covered any pawprints or scents, and we are no closer to finding out whether he is dead or alive. In the meantime, I hope to lead my pack with strength, intelligence and judgement," Crescent finished. She perked her ears up as something else caught her attention. What was that sound? It sounded like the barks and howls of unfamiliar wolves. What in the world....
