A small hunt (Closed for Avi) [Finished]

Avikii awoke slowly that morning, peering out of his den before completely exiting. He did though, finally make his way out of the alpha's den, and before he could stretch, he noticed Leafa sitting alone by the entrance of the den site. He cocked his head slightly, a patrol? Or perhaps hunting? He thought, then quietly made his way over to her.

"Hello Leafa," he greeted, to get her attention. "Enjoying the new rank?"

Avikii was slightly surprised by her response, but shrugged it off, his thoughts aimed at the hunting concept. "Yeah sure, I could use a good run." He replied, realizing it had been quite a while since his last run, which was weird considering how much he loved it.

Avikii followed, without replying.

A cool breeze caught his attention as he left the protection of the clearing. Their den site managed to block a lot of the wind, which was rather surprising considering that it was on top of one of the tallest hills in their territory. He continued forward, watching where he put his paws as the pair descended the slope that made up most of the land.

The scent hit Avikii's nose too, elk, certainly not fresh, but the trail it left told him that the creature had passed by. He glanced to Leafa, realizing she smelt it too. "Let's check down by the elk hunting grounds." He insisted, and continued down the slope, heading towards the clearing where the elk were known to stay.

There it was, the flat open lands that elk had trekked on for centuries. Avikii lifted his muzzle to the air, picking out fresh scents. A lot of them were old, but there were a few that said elk had stopped by recently. He flicked his tail, and glanced back at Leafa, realizing she was already looking at him. Was she staring at me? He thought, but shook it off. Focus on catching prey.

"Let's keep moving." He informed her, and padded onward, towarsd the center of the large flat land.

Avikii glanced at Leafa at the feeling of her nudge, he realized she was pointing something, and quickly followed for line of sight. There! An entire herd. It wasn't large, that was easily noticeable, but the elk within the herd still looked like they carried plenty of meat.

Avikii closed in, watching his footing and making sure not to let a paw catch on a leaf or twig. He glanced over at Leafa, making sure she was close enough as well. The alpha narrowed his gaze, and flicked his ear, signaling to lunge.

In a swift movement Avikii was hurling at the closest elk, hopefully, the cooler weather was weakening them, and would make it easier to catch. He bit down hard on the cow's throat, pulling down and holding her still so Leafa could get a good shot at the elk as well.

Avikii pulled harder on the cow elk's jugular, blocking out it's wail of pain. The next moment he was thrashing, yanking his own head side to side to weaken the elk even further, to make it easier for Leafa to kill.

Avikii ripped his grip free from the now lifeless prey, he stepped back, and surveyed it for a brief moment. There was something off about how weak the ting had already been, usually they put up more of a fight. He looked up at Leafa, a puzzled expression covering his face. "Was it odd how easy it went down?" He questioned her, wondering if she thought the same as he.
