Avikii waited by the entrance to the den site, he had planned a small patrol for Ceiko. The subordinate was nearing the age of the other officially ranked wolves, and the alpha wanted to see for himself if the younger male was ready to be ranked up.

Ceiko was quick to join Avikii, he felt so honored to be going out on a patrol with the alpha! His tail waved back and forth with complete happiness. His mouth was parted in a pant as he watched Avikii as he approached them, dipping his head in greeting and ready to head out

"Hello, Ceiko." He greeted calmly. "Good to see you on time, most of the time the others will be late." He chuckled slightly, hoping to lighten the mood.
"Anyway, want to head out now?" He asked, not exactly waiting for an answer as he began to turn towards the den site entrance.

Ceiko's tail swished back and forth as he nodded, quickly turning after him before the Alpha even took note of his answer. His ears flicked back briefly, was he in a rush?
The young male tried to avoid the fact, the pessimistic thought that the Alpha may not favor patrolling with him, but only had to to take note of his experience or because there was no other wolf to take his place.

Avikii lead him out of the den site, and down the sloping hills of their territory. He watched his footing as he descended, since snow patches and frost made the ground more slippery. He glanced back at Ceiko, making sure he was fine before turning to look ahead again.
He decided on taking the younger male to the southern area of the territory, where hares were more common. They had to think about the elk, since the one he and Leafa had caught a while back had been oddly weak.

Ceiko carefully picked his way down, keeping a bit more self control then the last time out of the mere fear of not being ranked up to an official rank.
He kept his eyes low and away from the alpha, even if they were more cautious, it wouldn't do much use anyway as far as his blindness was progressing. His ears were perked and his nose was sharp. He heard every little whisper of the wind and scurry of a vole beneath a nearby tree, but kept silent about all his finds as they were quite useless information.
He just hoped he could find something that Avikii didn't and impress him a bit.. however that act seemed almost hopeless to him.

As they arrived down in the flatter area of Canyon Pack territory, Avikii turned to face Ceiko? "Can you scent any nearby prey?" He asked, stopping himself from scenting the air. He wanted to see if Ceiko knew where the nearby prey was, if any.

Ceiko raised his nose to the air and paused. "Well, not here specifically, perhaps in this vicinity yes, but not here."
"There is, however a small mouse nearby, its under those tree roots." Ceiko pointed his nose to the direction in which he heard the slightest of scuffling from a nearby tree, "however I don't think I can get a mouse beneath a tree."
He shook out his pelt, "There were a few hare here earlier, not long before we approached, but it seems as if they have left," he added a bit forlornly.
Ceiko, without the exact knowledge of it, was managing to point out a discovery of things that most wolves found difficult to pick up on, but due to the slow loss of one sense, he was gathering strength in all the rest, especially in scent and sound. The male glance back at his alpha, wondering what he'd like him to do next.

Avikii was pleasantly surprised to hear how well he could track prey, if he knew it or not, he was surely one of the best subordinate trackers as far as he knew. Yet, there was still that suspicion of his vision, there was the guess of him going blind, but the still alpha needed more proof.
"Wonderful, just what I wanted to hear." He started, then lifted his own muzzle to scent the air. Ceiko was right, there were traces of prey but nothing too close. He looked back over to the pale white wolf, "do you think you can track the hare?" He knew the young male would be able to follow a scent trail, but if they were to come across the creature, would he be able to react quick enough and actually get it.

Ceiko nodded,he turned away to get a better whiff of the hare. He turned in circles trying to catch which direction the scent would take him, but it took no time at all. He quickly started walking with haste as he began to track down the hare.

Ceiko moved in crooked patterns, it almost seemed as if the hare may have been chased. The young male paused, wondering if something else had been there, however he found nothing, so it must have just been spooked. He tracked it around and soon found it in a clearing nearby.
His heart dropped, he was hoping it would have lead him to a scent of a fox or badger or coyote or even its den, but he did not want to have to hunt it. He might look like a fool, chasing the hare blind! Ceiko narrowed his eyes, but he would have to try if he wanted to be ranked up. He crept forwards slowly towards the hare.

Ceiko didn't check to see if Avikii were there or not. He just half hoped he weren't if he were to fail his hunting attempt. He crept forwards slowly and carefully made sure to place his paws softly on the ground, and not on a twig this time. His white pelt, however helped him blend into the frosty surroundings.

Ceiko leapt after the hare, and just as it turned, finally recognizing his presence, he caught it and dealt the killing blow, however it was extremely sloppy.

Avikii continued to watch, watch as Ceiko made the kill. it was obviously sloppy, but all the same he caught it. The alpha revealed his hiding spot by standing up, and approaching the younger wolf. "Good catch," was all he managed to say, "let's take it back to the den site."
