A cool breeze ruffled the fur of the alpha male as he stood on the ledge inside their den site that overlooked their territory, it was his favorite spot to sit and wait for patrols or hunting parties. He had invited Leafa to a patrol, not to hunt, the pack was good on food for now, and besides, the subordinates found hunting more enjoyable anyway. No, the reason he had wanted the she-wolf to patrol with him was because recently, there had been a feeling tugging at his fur, one he hadn't truly felt for a long while. Love. Yes, love, he didn't know why, or how, but that oddly familiar feeling was nagging at him ever since he had laid eyes on the golden female. The male did feel slight guilt though. Recently, Leafa's quick mate, Soba, had found interest in another she-wolf, and coincidentally, it was Khari, the same wolf he had rejected. He felt bad, yes, but at the same time, this gave him more opportunities with Leafa, and of course a chance to tell her how he felt. The black and tan-coated male sighed, watching as his breath billowed out in front of him. He'd tell her... |

Leafa huffed as she made her away into the center of the camp. Avikii had asked for her to come on a patrol with him. She didn't know why, but she was going anyway. Leafa spotted he alpha. Her golden fur was ruffled as a soft breeze blew through it like fingers. She looked at him, her icy blue eyes studying the male. She could tell he was deep in thought.
"Avikii," Leafa called out.

Avikii flicked an ear, hearing his name be called. He turned his head to look over his shoulder, and to his relief Leafa was approaching him. "Leafa," he greeted back, now standing up to meet her. "You ready to go then? I figured we could patrol along the creek." He suggested, hoping she would agree, yet, knowing her she most likely would.
Suddenly, a wave of nervousness washed over him. He gulped, and kept possible anxious actions away from the she-wolf’s notice. It had been so long since he felt this way.

"The creek sounds fine," she replied with a smile. She quickly clean her shoulder and grinned.

Avikii, thankfull for her up-beat mood, quickly lead the way out of the den site. He turned and avoided the steeper side of the slope, and was careful on where he placed his paws, worried he would slip on the frozen over snow.
It took strategic paw placement and steady steps but the alpha finally stepped on flat land. He loved his pack's territory, yet sometimes, it got dangerous. Thank god, it keep outs intruders for the most part. He thought, and turned to glance at Leafa, making sure she was close behind.

Leafa put her paws gingerly on the icy slope and she made her way down it. She stopped at the bottom and flicked her tail. She stopped at his side, her fur slightly touching his. She looked at the snowy territory and breathed in. It was beautiful.

The alpha male glanced over at her, and offered a light smile before continuing forward through the snowy territory.
He hated the way the snow seeped up in between his paw pads, but all the same, the sight was enjoyable enough for him to enjoy this time away from the den site, along with being out with Leafa. The male trudged through the snow, which grazed his belly fur at certain snow drifts, he shivered at the feeling. The territory looked so open, empty even, he couldn't even see the common dots of elk as they passed the hunting grounds, it was all so... surreal.
He glanced back at Leafa, realizing she was taking in the view as well.

"Snow makes everything look far more beautiful," Leafa commented. The loved how the snow sparkled in the sun. She tried to hold back the urge to be a little pup, but failed. She jumped forward, landing in the soft snow. She did this a few more times before she disappeared into a snow drift. She popped her head back out, snow topping her head. She laughed joyfully.

A silly-looking grin started from the corner of his muzzle, his eye brow cocked. He didn't even get the chance to reply to her words before he watched her dart forward through the snow. The male couldn't help but laugh as he watched her practically burrow into the white powder.
"Wait up!" He called, and let his spirit let loose as he gleefully went after her. Sure, he was an alpha, he had to set a model for the wolves of his pack, but that didn't matter now, it was only Leafa he was with anyway. Avikii pounced toward her, flicking snow at the she-wolf with his tail as he came to a hault. Snow stood out on his dark pelt, and he began to feel it drip and seep into his thick pelt as his body heat melted it.

Leafa watched in utter shock as Avikii joined her playful snow game. She'd never seen Avikii act like this, but she liked it. Leafa's face got sprayed with a small layer of snow and she laughed. Leafa dipped her head under the snow and flung some snow at Avikii with her snout. She clambered out of the snow drift and shook off some of the snow on her pelt.

Avikii flinched as he felt more snow hit him, and grinned again, watching as Leafa worked her away out of the pile of snow.
He let out a warm breath of air, then glanced to the she-wolf. "Should we keep moving?" He suggested, feeling a little odd now for the unusual way he acted. "We're pretty close to the creek now." He added, huffing as he felt more melted snow dribble down his pelt.

Leafa nodded, a large smile still on her muzzle. She trudged through the snow as they neared the creek. At random moments, she'd jump forward and hop around before she returned to trudging through the snow.

Being with Leafa really lightened the alpha's mood, and as they grew closer to the trickling sound of water, his eagerness to speak with her grew as well.
He peered over a dead sage bush, of which was covered in bits of frost, to see the nearly frozen over creek just a few paw steps away. There were still parts where the water flowed quicker, where the water peeked out from below, and provided a beautiful trickling sound. He pushed past the bush, and padded up to the edge of the water, which was ice at the edges. "It's so peaceful," he commented, unintentionally setting a mood.

"It is really peaceful..." she smiled. Then she remembered. What was this patrol for? He hadn't clearly specified what they were patrolling for before they left or when he had invited her.
"So... now what?" she asked.

This was it, he thought.
Turning to Leafa, Avikii let his voice soften. "You see, I wanted to patrol with you, to tell you something." He paused, glancing at his paws and trying to gather the proper words.
"Ever since my patrol found you at the edge of our territory and invited you to join the pack, I've felt this certain pull towards you." The alpha gulped, finally deciding to just speak from his heart. "I really like you, a lot, actually, and I haven't felt a feeling this true in a while." He looked up, his own blue optics meeting hers. "Do you want to be my mate?" Seconds plodded by, each separated from the next by an eternity. Air grew heavy, damp, almost solid. He was breathing stones in anticipation for her answer.

Leafa turned to face Avikii as he replied to her question. 'Will you be my mate' is the sentence that caught her off guard. Leafa felt her entire world fall away. Was he being serious? She had sought after him ever since she had joined the pack up until the point she had become Soba's mate. She still had feelings for him, even then, but had remained loyal to Soba. Leafa's eyes were like giant pools of ice. Her heart thundered in her chest and opened her jaws to speak, but all that came out was a small squeak. She took a deep breath, trying to organize her thoughts.
"O-of course!" she breathed out.

Avikii smiled, he simply smiled, and his smile grew bigger with each passing moment. He was speechless, that good kind of speechless when you can’t believe such a great thing just happened. The alpha male inched closer to Leafa, and nuzzled her cheek, unknowing of what else to really do.

Leafa was still shocked by what he had asked her. It was like a dream... She felt him nuzzle her cheek and she closed her eyes. The shock finally surpassed and was replaced with a warm, happy feeling. It blossomed from her stomach and outward, warming every inch of her. Leafa let out a breath and returned the nuzzle.
