Kane stood at the edge of the den site waiting for the wolves he had picked to hunt. Sure some of them were not ranked as hunters but it was always good to have talented wolves come along with him, even as lead hunter he would need help.

Hediki woke that morning at the sensation of winter's chilly breeze weaving its way into their usually warm den. He opened his eyes and glanced around the den, realizing some wolves had already gotten up and went to work with their daily tasks, including Kane. Kane! The young warrior got to his paws and pushed his body out of the den, out into the crisp late-morning air.
The male spotted the older brown and gold wolf at the edge of the den site, obviously waiting for others to join him. Hediki approached Kane, dipping his head in greeting. "Good morning, Kane." He said, glancing up at the blue-eyed male.

"Greetings Kane, Hediki." Axolotl dipped his head in greeting. After being ranked up he decided to act more of his age instead of being like a bouncy pup. Even as a subordinate he knew how to hunt very well but he got ranked up to a scout because of his tracking skills. Being a Scout wasn't so bad at all!

Lightning was up early, he sat in a warm patch of sun and watched as the wolves for the hunt began to gather and decided to head over as well. He dipped his head to the lead hunter, Kane, in greeting. He glanced to Axolotl and then to Hediki briefly. "Hello," he greeted the few wolves simply.

Hediki didn't have much to say, so he merely nodded a greeting in return before glancing back over to Kane, "any other wolves we're waiting for?" He questioned the older male, wondering if they would be leaving soon.

Kane watched as Shade came over to the group, "alright that is everyone, let's go!" he turned away and started to walk down the slope of the den site and lead the group of wolves out into the flat territory where he knew they could find some elk or at least a hare.

Lightning nodded and headed out after Kane, feeling a bit relaxed, not having to lead something for once. He cast various glances around, staying alert with ears perked, for any prey that may be nearby within any varying distance.

Hediki made his way down the steep slope that guarded their den site after Kane's word of leave, He placed his paws carefully before finding himself at the base of the slope, and following the others through open territory.
He kept his ears shoved forward, his gaze flicking around and eyeing each area, not daring to miss a chance at prey.

Axolotl followed beside Shade, their fur brushing against each other. He actually kinda liked the she-wolf. Maybe this would be his mate? Maybe not. There were more wolves that were better off for her.

Kane kept leading the group forward until he paused at the edge of a clearing, the clearing where the elk were usually found. He looked back at the others "stay here until I signal for you all to follow" he said then ducked around a bush and out into the clearing. He did not smell anything at first after a while of searching, but then a moment later and he smelled it, elk. He looked back at the others and moved his tail in a way that said 'follow me' and began to track the elk.

Hediki followed Kane until he told them to stop, then once Kane gave the signal with his tail, the warrior streaked across the clearing toward the clump of bramble Kane stood by. He lifted his muzzle to the air, and sure enough, the fresh scent of elk hit his nose.

Lightning had dropped to the very rear of the group, he knew elk well. He knew well Kane wouldn't lead them into a hunt thinking it would be as simple as catching a hare. None the less, he felt the instinctive need to do so by dropping back. He would be there in case someone messed up. In case the elk went wild or another came from elsewhere. He would be there to throw himself forward for his pack. It wasn't a lack of trust, but simply instinct, one that had grown strong since his rank of Beta.

Kane spotted the elk from a distance away, it had wandered away from the rest of the herd, so this one should be an easy target. He glanced back at his patrol, "let's slowly move in, then on my word we will all jump out and take it down" he pointed with his muzzle at the lone elk so that the others knew which one he was talking about.
"Let's move..." he said as he began to slowly lead them through the bushes, hidden from sight.

Hediki merely nodded, and began to move forward again, carefully watching Kane's movement, his ears flicking, prepared to pick up any sudden noise. The young warrior stayed quiet, glancing up over the grasses to get a look at the elk Kane had pointed out. He lifted his muzzle to the air to get a whiff of it before attacking, making sure this elk wasn't sick, unlike the ones that had been caught over a week ago.
He paused, unable to smell anything abnormal, so he continued on. Hediki veered away to get another angle on their prey, like how Kane had mentioned closing in on it, it would be best to come at the elk from different areas.

Axolotl crept around to the back of the elk deciding to lay back a bit and let the older ones take charge. He didn't show that but the young scout was staring at the prey intently.
