The walk (Closed)

Lightning stretched as he came out from the den. He took a somewhat lengthy nap, planing to lead the dusk patrol. He let out a brief yawn before he slowly made his way towards the entrance. As his eyes skirted the den site for wolves to join him he noticed the cream and grey she wolf Hoja was hovering near the entrance. He paused only briefly, hesitating, for what reason he could not say. Approaching her, he dipped his head politely. "Looking for a patrol to join?" He asked, his ear flicking towards the entrance to the camp.

Lightning smiled, his eyes flicking between the entrance and then to her own pale eyes. He simply nodded, it didn't seem as though anyone was going to be looking to join the patrol, so he said softly, "shall we?" He asked her, meeting her eyes steadily with his own pale amber eyes. His tail flicking slightly towards the entrance.

Lightning followed her outside the camp, keeping close behind her at a steady pace. His tail level with his body and his ears alert. Yet despite it all, his mind was floating around the memory of Hoja's eagerness to head out. The thought of the memory not long ago made him smile just slightly to himself. Without noticing it in the moment, he found himself a bit distracted from the task at hand. He sped up a bit to catch up with the she wolf, his pace settling to match hers once he had done so.

Lightning noticed a small and ever so slight change to her gaze. His tail wagged just slightly as they trotted along. He could not be sure of what ran through her mind in that moment, but he found himself rather amused by it. A smile lingering on his face in response to it all. He took a glance around to try and determine if there was any danger around. All seemed as clear as usual, the worst danger he would have is if Hoja turned on him. Something that was quite unlikely to happen.

Lightning paused in thought to consider an answer. It surely was not one he had been asked before, and most definitely not something he considered often. They held a steady pace now, something a little bit less then a trot, but not a slow walk either. He tilted his head and made a 'hum' sound in response. Almost as a subconscious action in which he could show Hoja he had heard her. His tail swayed and then he answered, turning to her. His eyes flickering from the scenery that surrounded him and then to her eyes. "I would not say they are my most enjoyable activities, but what must be done is done I suppose." He tilted his head, pausing a moment before echoing the question. "Do you?" He wondered, curious as to if there were a reason she had asked that specific question.

Lightning shrugged,"yes well if that is how things were to be, then there would never be any wolf to patrol. It is just part of the job, and none of us can really fight against that just because we dont want to. If we did, then we would not have enough unity to be a pack. We would not accomplish nearly anything and would be nothing but a band of wolves, loners in a the same area. It would also make things much more dangerous for those of the pack who could not defend themselves or lack an alert behavior."
