Waterlogged Valley (OPEN) [FINISHED]

Avikii looked around for a moment, a yelp caught his attention, and it founded familiar. He turned to Kane, "did you hear that?" He hoped it wasn't Lightning or Relic, but it was hard to tell, the only thing he knew for sure is that the noise came from up ahead where the herd was scented... He picked up his speed, guessing that Kane was right on his heels.

302 stopped, a large raspberry bush loomed before him and the rest of the group. "Found it..." He couldn't help but smirk at his finding of something that was actually needed.

Avikii strained his ears, was that splashing? His heart raced now. Was some wolf in danger? Or was it merely the elk crossing the overflown creek? He cast a quick glance in the direction of the elk herd, they hadn't moved much, and they weren't too close to the creek itself no matter how flooded. Avikii glanced toward Kane, "keep close," he hissed and darted forward, bounding lightly on his paws. If the splashing was in fact caused by a wolf, the least he could do is save them, even if they were only a rogue or loner...

Avikii wasted no time getting to the edge of the flooded creek, he looked around, eyes darting between the small rapids it created. He heard nothing, saw nothing, and didn't catch a single scent over than the overwhelming scent of the nearby elk. Wait. Where was the other member of their hunting party? "Relic!" He called into the now drizzling rain. He hadn't seen his pack mate since they split up to do their own hunting. Had it been the young dark wolf that he heard thrashing in the water?

Now that this new thought was drilled into his head he started to frantically search the water for a body, hopefully not a motionless one. The alpha feared loosing fellow wolves, and with winter coming, that would be more likely. He slowly took a step forward, feeling the soft water logged ground soaking up into the space between his paw pads. He cringed at the sensation. "Relic!" He called again, no beginning to worry for the wolf's safety.

Avikii felt Kane run up on his side, he glanced at the lead hunter, who was frantically calling out. He's probably fearing for Koga, He thought, knowing how protective he was for his sibling. A dark figure caught his eye, it was drifting through the water. "Relic?" He didn't say very loud. If it wasn't for the size and visible ears, Avikii would have easily mistaken the wolf for a floating log.

He wasn't moving.

Fear pulsed through him, now was not the time to loose a pack mate. He took a step forward, but quickly pulling back at the feeling of the water. It was rushing by fast, too fast. And soon, Relic would be gone. He didn't have a choice but to wait until the dark wolf washed up on the bank when he reached the slower part of the creek, where Avikii could wade in and pull him out.

302 looked at Koga, "we need to collect as many leaves as we can." He pushed his head forward, muzzle poking around in the bush. He attempted to avoid the small spikes that lined the stems, but still managed to get little scratches across his muzzle as he pulled back, a paw ful of small leaves dangling from his jaw.

It was Relic's body. Avikii jumped forwards, watching Relic float downstream. His heart pounded in his ears. Why here, why now? The agile alpha wasted no time and jumped into the water where it was shallow and slow moving, quickly making his way to the center where Relic was fast approaching.

He dug his teeth into Relic's scruff as he floated by. With all the strength he could muster Avikii tugged on Relic, eventually pulling him out of the water and getting him safety to the muddy shore. During the event of pawing his way through the creek, he found himself quite muddy. He didn't have time to think about that now, would Relic be able to get saved? He dropped down on the level of the motionless body, he sniffed around his chest, nudging it with his nose as well. He swore he heard gurgling. Did Relic merely drown by consuming too much water? Avikii moved his muzzle towards about where his heart should be, pressing his ear to his chest and listening closely.

Nothing.

Avikii backed up now, his exhaustion catching up to him. He sat down with a thud, feeling mud squish under his rump. Great. He looked back to see if Kane was nearby, he had not a clue where Lightning was, but hoped he got here soon or they would have to get going without him...
