Morning Patrol - open [Finished]

302 had woken early that morning, he hadn't gotten much sleep that night before either. The Casanova glanced around, enjoying the feeling of the crisp breeze that continued to ruffle his winter coat. He began to pad over to the pile of left over prey when he spotted soba, a young wolf siting alone by the entrance to their little clearing.

"Soba?" 302 padded over to him, leaving behind the thought of a tasty hare. "Waiting for more wolves to join a patrol or hunting party?" He asked with a slight tilt of his head.

Swift snuck out of the pups den and to the edge of the camp where the others were. "I wanna come too!" She yipped, hoping her nonchalance will help her be able to join them. It would be a while before she was a subordinate, and she knew pups couldn't leave the camp, but oh how she wished!

Swift flicked her ear, quickly dismissing the thought of her fathers long and boring lectures. He was just being a pup, well, not exactly... More like a beebrain. It was a pointless lecture with no meaning, when was the last time a pup got injured just going on patrol? It wasnt that dangerous. She scoffed lightly under her breath and turned away with ears and tail drooping as she trudged back for the nursery. She would show them. She would make a patrol of her own, and all the pups would go out and show her dad and Lightning that they were both wrong.

Seeing that no other subordinate was in sight, 302 nodded to Soba's question. "Yeah, we should get going." The Casanova said as he turned around to face the younger wolf. 302 considered his second request, battle training. It would be good to teach yearling some of his own moves, it gave him a sense of dominance, something he didn't really have compared to the other wolves his age.

"Battle training is a good idea, really, I can teach you a few things when we get out in the territory, so let's quite wasting time." He gave Soba a friendly wink, turning tail to pad out and away from the den site.

302 couldn't help but smile at the young wolf's enthusiasm, "we'll go south, near the Little Butte." Then a thought struck the Casanova. "Have you seen the Little Butte yet?" He asked Soba, turning slightly to face him while continuing to plod forwards. If the subordinate hadn't seen the Little Butte yet, perhaps they could do battle training atop the short hill, it provided a good idea on what it would be like to fight enemy wolves since the butte was in neutral territory.

"If not, I'd be glad to take you since it's on the way. In fact, that butte is right on the edge of our southern border." He informed the yearling, pretty proud to be 'mentoring' in a way.

302 held his light smile, it felt good to smile after what all had happened. He kept a steady pace as he continued to pad forwards, covering ground quicker than he expected too, the pair were already closing in on the southern border. The Casanova looked up, seeing the small hill of boulders and slopes to his left. He nudged Soba with his muzzle and pointed out the butte.

"That's where we will go after he patrol the border, which isn't too much further." He informed.

302 eyed the younger wolf, almost questioning why he was staring at the distant mound. He brushed it off though, subordinates had always been rather curious. "Let's keep moving." The Casanova suggested, making sure they stayed at a level steady pace.


302 began to slow up as the creek came into view, the landmark the divided them between here and the neutral territory. He flicked in ear in signal for Soba to move forward and mark the border, something he would have to get used to if he were to be going on patrols. The dark colored wolf moved a little ways away in silence, heading to another area to mark with his scent.

302 looked up, finishing his marker, to see Soba trotting over to him. He flicked his tail in slight greeting, staying silent, trying to remember if there was anywhere down south that needed marked. Not that I can think of, he thought. No focusing on Soba's question, he spoke. "Yes we should, I can tell you're eager to begin a battle lesson." He offered up a small smirk, wishing he knew what it was like to always be so excited about learning.

"Come on," he invited, turning around yet again to head back north, but not too far.

302 lead the way all the way back towards the Little Butte, which again, took less time than he expected. The Casanova lead the yearling towards another end of the creek, of which he swiftly glided into. He used powerful legs to propel himself across the slightly cold slow-moving water, and in a moments time he was on the other side, shaking the water off his darkened pelt.

"Hurry up!" He encouraged, knowing Soba was probably still anxious to start a training session.
